Professor YS Chan is currently Dexter H C Man Family Professor in Medical Science, Associate Dean (Development and Infrastructure) of Medicine, Associate Director of School of Biomedical Sciences, and Director of Neuroscience Research Centre of The University of Hong Kong. He also served as Associate Dean (Research), Associate Dean (Academic Networking and Student Affairs), Head of Department of Physiology, and Co-Convenor of HKU Strategic Research Theme on Neuroscience. Professor Chan is an elected Fellow of the Royal Society of Biology. He is the recipient of the First Medallion of the Australian Neuroscience Society. He also received the HKU Outstanding Researcher Award. Professor Chan has a long record of commitment to education and was awarded the Medical Faculty Teaching Medal and HKU Outstanding Research Student Supervisor Award.
Professor Chan served as Chair of International Brain Research Organization (IBRO) Asian/Pacific Regional Committee, President of Federation of Asian-Oceania Neuroscience Societies (FAONS), and President of Hong Kong Society of Neurosciences. He is currently President of the Asian-Pacific Society for Neurochemistry, Co-Chairman of the International Program Committee of 2021 World Congress of International Union of Physiological Sciences (IUPS), and Vice-President of The Chinese Association for Physiological Sciences. He is the Founding Editor-in-Chief for IBRO Reports as well as Associate Editor for both European Journal of Neuroscience and Journal of Neurophysiology. Professor Chan’s research interests are on synaptic mechanisms underlying plastic modification of neural circuit for spatial cognition and the exploitation of induced pluripotent stem cells for disease modeling.
